These days, prescription drugs seem to be a part of the rapper starter kit. While, for the most part, drug use in hip-hop has never been taboo (meaning you can’t totally blame this on the kiddos), the promotion and use of drugs of the highly addictive nature is at an all-time high. Music has the power to touch people in ways that words alone cannot.

While many artists will seek out drugs to give them an edge, sober Royce sounds sharper than ever. It’s also interesting to hear how his sobriety has helped not just his technical ability but his creativity and inspiration. J. Cole’s KOD album even explored the severity of drug abuse and addiction.
